Melon has delivered the Somerset College website for many years. As part of the latest iteration several key changes were identified. Most notably the UCS Prosolution platform needed to be integrated with the website to sync course information to maintain a single data entry point.
Additionally the website design required a refresh in-line with the updated UCS brand guidelines. The website content needed to be realigned to improve user experience and reflect supplier guidelines and legislation.
How we helped
As part of a research and presentation process, we reviewed Google Analytics data to identify key user journeys. We also identified a year on year increase in mobile browsing (65% of users were on smartphones in 2021) and so a mobile first approach was agreed.
Following an extensive wireframe planning phase in collaboration with UCS, the website architecture was clearly defined. The planning process also mapped out a database structure in order to merge Prosolution and Engine CMS data and assets.
Web designs were then mocked up using Sketch and Invision to create a complete prototype. This enabled both the Melon development team and client marketing team to work to a clearly defined end goal.
Summary of changes:
- Updated branding and images applied throughout website
- Modernised website design
- Website architecture revised to align with target demographics
- Mobile first approach to reflect Google Analytics data
- Prosolution database integration with syncing tools and backups
- Content aligned with Awarding Organisations guidelines
- Updates in line with Cookie and GDPR legislation
The result
The updated website delivers a modern, effective online presence, whilst streamlining content and course information updates. The website retains the Engine CMS, which is utilised by several departments throughout UCS for easy website content updates and data amalgamation. The new website iteration has been well received by all and will continue to deliver a powerful online enrolment tool.
